Syrian, Iraqi navy commanders arrive in Tehran

Tehran, April 21, IRNA – Syrian and Iraqi Navy Commanders arrived in Tehran on Saturday to attend the 6th Indian Ocean Naval Symposium.

The 6th Indian Ocean Naval Symposium (IONS) included 23 permanent members and 9 with observer status.

Iran is among permanent members of the IONS.

Iran Navy is to host the symposium from April 22, 2018 for duration of two years and it is due that delegation from 35 naval high-ranking officials from different world countries to attend the 2-day symposium.

Navy Commander Rear-Admiral Hossein Khanzadi said in a press conference on Saturday that many countries were interested to attend the symposium as an observer, adding that the US Navy had asked twice in 2014 in Bangladesh and in 2018 in Iran to attend the meeting, but faced by negative vote of Iran.
