Syrian Army's progress in Daraa - Russian Army enters the Battle for the South

The Syrian army and its allies have made progress in the town of Basrah al-Hariri in the southern village of Daraa al-Sharqi after the restoration of the villages of al-Bustan and al-Shumariya. The Russian Center  for Reconciliation, based in Hameimim Russian, reported the joining of the so-called Free Syrian Army in ten towns of southern Syria to the Syrian army.

The Syrian forces retook control of the villages of al-Bustan and al-Shumariya in the eastern Daraa countryside. The army also engaged in violent clashes with terrorists in the al-Lajat area between the provinces of Daraa and Suwayda. At least 10 gunmen were killed.

The massive military operation to restore the strategic region is under intense Russian air force cover. Russian aircraft launching raids for the first time since they agreed to a ceasefire in the region nearly a year ago. The so-called Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said that Russian aircraft launched more than 25 air strikes on the sight of silk.

Russia's full military intervention in the campaign will weaken the ability of the militants to withstand heavy shelling. The shelling and clashes are currently concentrated at the administrative border between the provinces of Daraa and Suwayda.

The Syrian forces aim to separate the eastern countryside between north and south, facilitating their operations and increasing pressure on opposition factions and allowing them to progress more quickly. The southern region acquires its uniqueness from the importance of its geographical location with the Israeli entity and Jordan, apart from its proximity to Damascus.

The United States raised its hand on the Free Syrian Army in conjunction with the participation of Russian aviation in the battle, and Washington told armed groups in Syria should not expect to receive military support to help them to counter the attack by the Syrian Army.
