Iran, Afghanistan joint defense cooperation essential

In a meeting with Afghan Defense Minister Tariq Shah-Bahrami, he referred to history of the two nations’ historic and cultural relations, saying that the two countries’ cultural, religious and lingual commonalties provide suitable grounds for promotion of political, economic and cultural ties.

Exchanging specialized delegations by the two countries’ parliaments will contribute a lot to sharing experience in the sphere of lawmaking.

Noting that presence of alien forces in the region has caused instability, Boroujerdi said that creation of terrorist groups in the region was designed by the US and the Zionist regime in a bid to undermine Islamic Ummah’s capabilities.

Reliance on God and local capabilities brought independence for the Islamic Republic of Iran, he said, noting that using Muslims’ scientific capacities and potentials can contribute to scientific revival as well as boost in their power in the international arena.

Stressing the need for joint defense and security cooperation between Iran and Afghanistan in the fight against terrorist groups, he said that Iran will support peace process and establishment of stability in Afghanistan and will spare no effort in this regard.

The Afghan minister, for his part, appreciated the Iranian nation and government’s support for the Afghan people during years of Jihad and resistance, saying that the Afghan nation will never forget Iran’s hospitability and support.

Deploring policies of certain regional states in support of terrorist groups in the region, he added that Afghanistan is on the frontline of campaign against terrorist groups of Taliban, Al-Qaeda and Daesh.

Uprooting the scourge of terrorism and extremism requires serious and practical assistance from all the regional and world countries, he said.

Tariq Shah Bahrami called for continued support of Iran for the peace process in Afghanistan.
