Syrian Army liberates Iraqi border region from ISIS

The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) scored a massive advance in southeast Syria on Sunday, liberating several areas from the Islamic State (ISIS) forces.

Backed by heavy airstrikes from their air force, the Syrian military continued their major operation to clear the western countryside of Albukamal city on Sunday morning.

Not long after resuming the attack, the Syrian Arab Army managed to liberate several areas, including a new Iraqi border region that was under the control of the Islamic State.

According to a military source in Deir Ezzor, the Syrian Arab Army liberated Post 400 at the Iraqi border, following a short battle with the Islamic State terrorists.

The source added that the Syrian Army’s operation covered over 1,800 square kilometers of territory, most of which was already under their control.

Due to the Islamic State’s abundance of sleeper cells in the region, the Syrian military launched this operation to finally clear out these terrorist hideouts and restore security to the area.

A separate military source told Al-Masdar on Sunday evening that the Syrian Army has eliminated 90 percent of the believed Islamic State combatants in this area.

The source added that the Islamic State should not be able to launch anymore big attacks on the western part of Albukamal because their terrorist network has been significantly reduced.

Below is the video footage of the Syrian Arab Army taking control of the Iraqi border region after expelling the Islamic State terrorists.
